Beary Distracted gets its name from the ever-curious yearling at the bottom right of the scene. While photographing this quaint Yellowstone family, our subject appeared to be just as interested in the photographers as we were in them. Momma bear and the sibling, however, “bearly” noticed we were even there.

I remember commenting to another photographer that “it looks like he wants to pet us as much as we do him.” That short moment is what made this image so memorable. There was a quiet calm to the scene, but also a little humor and personality coming from that curious yearling.
